I attended the Southern California Siebel User Group Meeting on Feb 7th, 2008 hosted at Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, CA. It was a very invigorating experience to know where Oracle is heading with Siebel product line. I also had an opportunity to meet other young Siebel Professionals.
Below are some highlights.
- Siebel 8 new features
- MS Outlook Integration: Definitely very useful and important for a sales person. This was the first one that caught my attention. This new feature will enable Outlook calendar and contacts to be in synced with Siebel calendar and contacts. So all the meetings and reminders are entered in one place will sync up with the other. There was a small demo on this and it looked great
- Black Berry Integration: This is the second important one that caught my attention. Field Reps can now access Siebel using their Black Berry device. This would saves time as Field reps will no longer have to wait till the end of the day to update Siebel. Data will now be updated real time.
- Google like Search: This feature will search for a sting entered across the whole database and all attachments. Good start on the search.
- Analytics Integration: Though this functionality exists in previous versions, Siebel 8 simplifies integration of Siebel CRM with Siebel Analytics.
- Also there were other cool features in Siebel 8 like embedding Widgets similar to Google widgets or even Social Networking widgets available from Face Book. I think this feature is available on Siebel 8.1 which is soon to be released.
- Siebel Upgrade to Fusion
- As it was mentioned in presentation, Oracle Fusion’s underlying data model is very similar to Siebel 8 and upgrading Siebel to Fusion shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
- Oracle wont force an upgrade
- It was also mentioned that Oracle will not force Siebel implementations to be upgraded. This means Siebel will still be supported for a long time even though Oracle Fusion products are released and being implemented.
- Case Studies
- We went through a case study on Siebel 8 Upgrade presented by Disney. Disney shared their experience. Disney was the first company to do the Siebel 8 upgrade.
- We went through a case study on Siebel Analytics and its importance to business presented by Amylin Pharmaceuticals. Oracle is really pushing this Business Intelligence Tool.
I was really excited to see all these new features. Let me know what you think about it. Leave your comments.
