As everyone knows a while back Oracle replaced Siebel Support web with new metalink3. It has been more than three months since I have been using it. I am not sure how everyone likes it but I like it less compared to Support Web. Might be probably I resist change more than others. Of course there are both positive and negative aspects about Metalink3. Below are some pointers.
Positive Aspects:
- The user interface is definitely better than Siebel Support web.
- Gives the ability to refine the search under the current search which I think is very good.
- Subscribe to Weekly Digest for select Siebel products.
Negative Aspects:
- It is very slow
- Already visited link doesn’t show as visited. In support web after searching and if I have already visited that link the color changes and when I do another search I would know that I have already visited that. But ML3, the color doesn’t change which somehow wastes time as I would go into it only to discover that I have already seen it.
- Search lacks specifics. When you search on something for example any Alert or FAQ, some times the actual document doesn’t show up instead some other documents referring to what I am searching for shows up. Then we will have to choose a category on the left to filter out the bad ones.
- SR# changed to doc id. I believe this is a very big culprit. Lot of reference has been lost. To go to the exact SR# we will have to again refine the query to show only problems and not all documents
- Sometimes gives error. Search on something and then try to see the document would show error that I don’t have access to view this document. To resolve this I had to send a feedback for which I got a very prompt reply.
Overall I somehow don’t seem to like Metalink 3 because it is taking up lot of time for searching documents but eventually this will be good in a long run.
I don’t know what other Siebel professionals think about ML3. Please share your thoughts.

The second pointer under Negative Aspects that I have listed has been resolved. Seems like someone from Oracle reviewed this post;) I am glad to see that change.

I’m working on a Oracle BI EE project, where we are trying to raise SR on Metalink3.
Could you please post a screen-dump with a product list from Metalink3 (including Oracle BI EE or Siebel in the dropdown).
My problem is still not able to supply me with a CSI number that gives official support on Metalink3 - even if we are paying for the support….

I understand you dont have a CSI, is this preventing you from creating SRs? if not then you should open an SR asking for it.
CSI number should also be available in the License/Purchase agreement. If not you should call/email Oracle. Check it out in oracle website.
