Siebel Workflows can be tested using Simulators. Using simulators we set the input process properties to some valid values and execute the simulator. Siebel provides two types of Simulator to test Workflows: Process Simulators and Business Service Simulators.
Process Simulators: This simulator is available under Siebel Tools. Open Siebel Tools and create a workflow appropriately. Once ready to test, mention the default values for all the inputs under the WF process properties default string, especially
Business Service Simulator: This simulator is available in Siebel Client. The Siebel Client could be Local dedicated client or could be a web client. Before we test the Siebel Workflow under this simulator publish and activate the workflow. Otherwise it won’t work. To invoke this simulator, under Siebel Client go to sitemap-> Administration-Business Service ->Simulator. I like this simulator very much the reason being that even if the Process Simulator in Siebel Tools mentioned above didn’t report any errors this will definitely report errors if any. So this is very close to testing in real scenario. Other benefit of using this is that you can save your test cases in a file and load them when necessary. This simulator can also be used to test Business Services. I will post another blog with more information on using this simulator sometime next week.
I will post more information on this soon. Let me know what you think about it. Leave a comment. Have a nice day.

Hi Rupali,
I am assuming that you have zero knowledge about Siebel. If that is the case your first step should be in learning what Siebel CRM is. Also from the people I know who do QA, they say it helps to know the underlying data model and dependencies. Well there is lot to learn and there is no one solid document to address this.
If you still have any specific question please feel free to use the forum.
Thanks,
Sridhar

Hi there.
I have a small issue. I need to run a workflow via the simulator on Siebel Client (instead of tools) and the input parameters couldn’t accept an XML message. When I copied and pasted the XML message, only the first line appeared. I therefore realised that the field most probably wasn’t capable to handle the length of the XML message. Is there any other way I could have handled this?
please advise.
Thx
Shaveen

Hi Shaveen,
Make sure your XML message is in one single line (remove new line characters and tabs) and then copy paste into input parameters. The simulator normally should be big enough to handle it. If you still have a problem then shorten the length of the xml just to test and see the max characters it can handle. If this still doesnt resolve the problem then we can discuss more in the forum section.
Good Luck,
Sridhar

Hello Sridhar,
Today I come to know about your blog, looks great…but I am wondering if you could provide feed to Google reader etc…right now it shows only few lines of post rather than full post…would be great if you could provide the full feed…
September 18th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Hi Test,
I dont think I will be sharing the full feed to the reader. If I did that it is very easy for other websites to extract my work and post it on theirs without giving any credit to its actual author. Lot of crooks have already started to do that and it hurts.
Also it is overwhelming to lot of people people as it is difficult to read scripts using the reader.
Last but not least, I need some hits on my websites.
Sorry to disappoint.
If still not convinced checkout this link and you will know what I mean.
